Set to premiere April 3rd in IMAX theaters before its debut to Apple TV+ streaming service on April 24th, the Spike Jonze-directed documentary Beastie Boys Story chronicles “the story of 3 friends who inspired each other and the world”.

The documentary is inspired by the original two-man show which took place in 2019. The event bared the same name as the documentary and featured still living Beastie Boys members DJ Ad-Rock and Michael “Mike D” Diamond commentating on the history of the group through classic footage. The event was an intimate homage to the late Adam “MCA” Yauch and how impactful he was to the group’s success.

The documentary will be taking place on the 26th anniversary of the group’s 1994 album, Ill Communication. Jonze also has a Beastie Boys photo book that is planned to be released March 17th through Rizzoli Publishing.
