Looks like Drake is back like he never left in his latest release, “War”. On Christmas Eve he released a video accompanying his latest track for fans to hype about. The track was originally featured in a mixtape in collaboration between Oliver El-Khatip of OVO and Kuumba International. Whether it gives some indication of what we can expect to come from Drake in 2020 uncertain, but we can still enjoy what it is in the moment. And it sounds like Drake is coming with the bars this time.
The video features Drake mobbing with company inside and out of wintery lodge. Inside is where the video starts, a blue light covered scene where the introduction features Drake smoking, something I cannot recall him ever doing on camera before for a video, seems like he is really going hard this time around. Outside in the cold Drake and crew shred the slopes, Drake continues his flowing in full snow attire ski-mask and all.
London producer AXL Beats takes credit for beat production. He had recently been seeing success on his collaboration with Fivio Foreign on “Big Drip”. Typically, AXL’s work is more based in the Drill music genre, and while the beat on “War” isn’t as aggressive as those, it still carries some elements of the genre, notably the delayed gunshots throughout the track.
The video is currently trending on YouTube, sitting at over four million views already. The track flows and once again, Drake reminds us that we cannot ever count him out.
