The Visually Stunning Remake ‘The Lion King’ is Now in Theaters

‘The Lion King’ has some good things going for it

This writer was a big fan of The Lion King growing up. The animated film had a stellar cast, beautiful songs, told an amazing story and was overall just an amazing movie. So when news broke of a live action remake coming out he wasn’t sure this was a good idea. These fears were somewhat squelched though when he heard Jon Favreau was directing it. It sounded like they made a great choice with the cast as well. He was able to see this movie this weekend and here is what he thought of it.

You can read the plot for The Lion King here:

Disney’s upcoming film journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

The Lion King gets 7/10. The visuals in this movie are really quite amazing. But it isn’t a perfect film. ‘Be Prepared’ was barely a song in here at all which is a shame because in the animated movie it was one of the better parts. They did do a great job with ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King’ and ‘Hakuna Matata’ though. Timon and Pumbaa were one of the best things in this remake. They were hilarious together and stole pretty much every scene they were in. Overall this was an alright remake, but this writer has seen better.
