Hear classic songs come alive in ‘Yesterday’
The Beatles are a beloved band the world over. They wrote so many songs that are still enjoyed by millions of fans of all ages to this day. But what would happen if one day everyone forgot they ever existed. Or worse yet they actually never came into existence. Well Yesterday is a movie that takes a look at what happens when only one person in the whole world remembers their music. This writer was able to see this film early and here is what he thought of it.
You can read the plot for Yesterday here:
Jack Malik is a struggling singer-songwriter in a tiny English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and support of his childhood best friend, Ellie. Then, after a freak bus accident during a mysterious global blackout, Jack wakes up to discover that The Beatles have never existed … and he finds himself with a very complicated problem, indeed.
Performing songs by the greatest band in history to a world that has never heard them, and with a little help from his steel-hearted American agent, Debra, Jack’s fame explodes. But as his star rises, he risks losing Ellie — the one person who always believed in him. With the door between his old life and his new closing, Jack will need to get back to where he once belonged and prove that all you need is love.
Yesterday gets 8/10. Himesh Patel does an amazing job in this movie. He does his own singing, and clearly has a blast singing every one of these songs. The movie tells a story of fame, fortune and love. Things move a bit fast sometimes, but the plot rarely dragged on for this writer. The ending was a bit weak in the sense that it was kind of obvious it was going to end that way. If you are a fan of The Beatles then this is a film you might want to check out.
