Two time Grammy winners Fleetwood Mac are the first band in history to win the MusiCares Person of The Year Award. . Together as Fleetwood Mac—Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood—have sold over 100 million albums and remain one of the best selling bands of all time. They were inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be the first band to receive the MusiCares Person of the Year award,” said Mick Fleetwood on behalf of Fleetwood Mac. “Independently and together, we all set off on a journey to spend our lives as artists, songwriters, and musicians. None of us did it alone and there were plenty of helping hands along the way, so we applaud and celebrate MusiCares’ guiding principles of giving musicians a helping hand and a place to turn in times of need. We are very appreciative of this recognition.”
Proceeds from the Award Gala will go to the MusiCares Foundation. Established in 1989 by the Recording Academy,The MusiCares Foundation offers health and human services programs, as well as addiction treatment, to those working in the music industry. Services include financial support for those in need, to help cover the costs of living expenses such as rent and utilities. Medical expenses including doctor, dentist and hospital bills are also covered, as are psychotherapy and treatment for drug addiction.
Special emphasis is on mental health and addiction recovery. Safe Harbor Room is a network for people in recovery while they are participating in the production of music events. The MusiCares Sober Touring Network is a database of people who can take music people to recovery support meetings while touring.
The benefit ceremony will be held in Radio City Music Hall in New York on Jan. 26, 2018. The 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018. The telecast will be broadcast live on the CBS at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
